About NexGen Tree Shelters

We supply environmentally friendly tree shelters, shrub shelters, spiral guards and vole guards that are a viable alternative to plastic.

We make all our products from a mix of British wool, a biodegradable polyol made from ethically sourced cashew nutshell liquid and castor oil, and an innovative custom polymer. This blend of materials means they are:

  • Fully biodegradable
  • pH neutral
  • Ecotoxicity neutral
  • Proven to last five years
  • Cost-effective as they need no collection, cleaning or recycling

Our support for British sheep farmers

We’re proud to support the Campaign for Wool. The campaign’s was initiated by His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales – now its patron – to raise awareness globally about wool’s unique natural, renewable and biodegradable benefits.

The campaign encourages collaboration between wool growers, major fashion designers, retailers, manufacturers, artisans and interior designers. It also educates consumers on wool’s versatility and the endless ways it can be used, which include everything from luxury merino knitwear to fire-retardant insulation. And now our tree shelters.

Wool is the perfect material for us to use because it is 100% natural, sustainable, renewable, biodegradable, durable, flexible, flame and water-resistant, and readily available in the UK. It also provides the catalyst for the degradation process.

From September 2022, we’ll be buying 78,000 square metres of wool a month from over 1,200 British sheep farmers. And because the wool we use is of a lower grade than that used by clothing manufacturers, we’re providing these farmers with a new market for fleeces that they would typically have buried, burnt or dumped.

Our support for British industry

As well as supporting British sheep farmers, we’re proud to support British industry. The releasable metal ties on our shelters are made from British steel. And all our shelters and guards are manufactured in Essex.

Our support for the environment

We’re committed to doing all we can to help mitigate climate change. So, while our tree shelters protect the environment as well as the trees they house, we’re not content to stop there.

All our packaging can be recycled or composted. We use no solvents in our production process. And we make sure all our suppliers operate ethically.

To demonstrate our environmental performance and help us continue to do more, we’re currently working towards B Corp certification.

You can read more about B Corp and the principles that guide us here.

Looking to the future

Because of our innovative material technology, we believe, in partnership with our customers and suppliers, we can make a significant contribution to:

  • Mitigate climate change
  • Support the growing demand for timber
  • Support the urgent need to plant new forests
  • Reduce the environmental impact of plastic in our countryside
  • Support UK sheep farmers with a new and sustainable market

We’re also researching new uses for our material technology. If you think it can be applied in your industry, please get in touch. We’d be happy to talk to you.
